DATA H&S Training

Essential workshop safety training for D&T teachers and technicians

Nationally recognised Health & Safety training, delivered by an RDTHSC-registered consultant and built specifically for school Design & Technology workshops.

The Design and Technology Association (DATA) provides the nationally recognised Health & Safety accreditation for teachers and technicians working in school workshops. Courses are built specifically for education settings, focused on the safe use of tools, machinery and equipment within a D&T department, and delivered only by consultants registered with the Register of Design and Technology Health and Safety Consultants (RDTHSC).

This training is not simply good practice, it is a legal expectation. Schools must ensure staff are competent to supervise pupils around potentially dangerous equipment, and must be able to demonstrate that appropriate training has been given. DATA training covers safe use of machinery, workshop management, risk assessment, pupil supervision and maintenance checks, with the aim of building a practical understanding of safety in everyday teaching, not just a list of rules to memorise.

How training is delivered

Many schools choose to build DATA training into a broader programme of safety development. Delivered alongside workshop audits, maintenance and staff CPD, training can be tailored to the exact tools, machines and projects your department uses, so it links directly to your schemes of work rather than sitting apart from them.

Training can be delivered on-site at your school, or arranged as a shared course for a small group of schools to help spread the cost.
